Counselling for Neurodivergent Adults

Autism & ADHD support in Whitley Bay & Online

Exploring your neurodivergence as an adult can bring a mix of relief, confusion and emotional overwhelm.

Whether you’ve recently received an autism or ADHD diagnosis, are self-identifying or are beginning to question how your brain works, this can be a powerful and sometimes unsettling time.

You don’t have to make sense of it all on your own.

A different kind of self understanding

Many neurodivergent adults come to counselling after years of feeling:

  • different but not knowing why
  • exhausted from masking or coping
  • misunderstood in relationships or work
  • overwhelmed by everyday demands
  • disconnected from their authentic self

For some, receiving a diagnosis later in life can also bring unexpected feelings of grief for the support you didn’t have, the struggles that went unexplained or the energy spent trying to fit in.

All of these responses are valid and understandable.

I often support adults who are adjusting to a new autism or ADHD diagnosis, exploring whether they may be neurodivergent or experiencing masking burnout. Many are re-evaluating past experiences or relationships, feeling overwhelmed or easily overstimulated or struggling with identity and self-acceptance. Some notice long-standing people-pleasing patterns or feel emotionally or socially drained. You don’t need a formal diagnosis to seek support.

How Counselling Can Help

Our work together can offer a supportive space to process the emotional impact of diagnosis or self-discovery, better understand your needs and sensitivities and explore your identity with greater compassion.

We can gently work towards reducing shame or self-criticism, building self-acceptance and finding ways of living that feel more sustainable for you, always moving at a pace that respects your nervous system. There is no pressure to mask, perform or explain yourself perfectly in our sessions.

My approach

I offer person-centred counselling that is calm and gently paced, flexible to your needs, and grounded in a non-judgemental, sensory-aware and respectful approach. You are welcome to show up exactly as you are.

Sessions are available in person in Whitley Bay or online across the UK via Zoom.

If you’re unsure whether this support is right for you, we can begin with a free consultation to talk things through.
